Even in a city known for its coffee, Sandino Coffee Roasters stands out. For owner WINSTON SANDINO, what makes his coffee special doesn’t just start at the roaster but where it is grown — in Jinotega, Nicaragua. His brother (an architect by profession) oversees and manages the daily operations of the coffee farm. 

While Sandino’s business has grown from the early days of selling coffee at the St. John’s farmers market, he still has ideas for expansion. He dreams of certifying his family’s coffee farm as an official tourist destination and opening up a coffee shop in Jinotega so his hometown community can enjoy the taste and flavors of what their land can grow. 

In the summer, his daughter (pictured) works as the barista. Stop by to get a cup with a pastry on the side.
